Accessibility

How this site is built to be usable, what we know still needs work, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.

Earth Electrical NSW aims to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA on this website. The site is plain HTML with no scripted interface, built to work with a keyboard and with screen readers, and it zooms and reflows. If any part of it stops you getting in touch, call 0412 521 992 and we will take your details that way.

Our commitment

Plenty of people who need an electrician are older, have low vision, use a screen reader, can’t use a mouse, or are reading a phone one-handed in bad light. None of that should make it harder to find out what we do or to ask for a quote. We treat an inaccessible page as a fault to fix, not a nice-to-have.

The target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. We believe the site substantially meets that standard. It has not been independently audited, so we describe it as substantially conformant rather than claiming full conformance.

What’s in place

  • Every page is real, semantic HTML with a single top-level heading and a logical heading order, so screen readers and reader modes can navigate it.
  • A “skip to content” link is the first thing in the tab order on every page.
  • The whole site works with a keyboard alone. Focus is visible — a solid amber outline — and never removed.
  • There is no client-side framework, no carousel, no modal that traps you, no autoplaying audio or video, and nothing that moves on its own.
  • Animation and transitions are switched off automatically if your device is set to reduce motion.
  • Every image carries alternative text, or is marked as decorative where it adds nothing. Images have fixed dimensions so the page doesn’t jump as it loads.
  • Every form field on the quote form has a visible, properly associated label, the right input type and autocomplete hint, and required fields are marked in the markup rather than by colour alone.
  • Text and background colours are chosen for contrast, including on the dark green sections. Text can be zoomed to 200% and the layout reflows to a single column at narrow widths without horizontal scrolling.
  • Links describe where they go. Nothing relies on “click here” or on colour alone to convey meaning.
  • Typefaces are served from this site rather than a third party, so text renders without waiting on an outside service, and a system font stands in until they arrive.
  • The page language is declared as Australian English.

Known limitations

Being straight about the gaps is more useful than a blanket claim:

  • No independent audit. Checking so far has been our own — keyboard-only navigation, browser zoom and automated tooling — not a formal audit with assistive technology by someone who relies on it. That catches a lot, but not everything.
  • Contrast on dark sections. The dark green panels are the part of the design most likely to produce a contrast problem when something new is added. We check them, and it is the first thing to tell us about if a heading or link looks washed out to you.
  • Social content we don’t control. Where posts from our Instagram feed appear, the captions and image quality are whatever was published there. Our profiles on Instagram, Facebook and Google are those companies’ platforms, and their accessibility is not something we can fix.

Tell us if something doesn’t work

If a page is unreadable, a form won’t submit, or something is unusable with your assistive technology, we want to hear about it — it’s a bug and we’ll fix it.

Tell us the page, what you were trying to do, and what device, browser or assistive technology you were using if you know. We’ll come back to you as quickly as we can.

Getting a quote another way

You never have to use the web form. Phone, text or email works exactly the same, and we’ll take the details from you directly — suburb, what’s happening, and when suits. We answer the phone ourselves.

On site

Accessibility isn’t only a website thing. If you need us to work around a mobility aid, a hearing impairment, an assistance dog, a support worker’s schedule, or anything else, say so when you book and we’ll plan the job around it.

Feedback and escalation

If you raise something with us and you’re not satisfied with how we handle it, you can contact the Australian Human Rights Commission at humanrights.gov.au, which handles complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992.
