Electrical Fault Finding & Repairs
Tripping breakers, dead circuits and mystery faults traced to the cause.
Earth Electrical NSW diagnoses and repairs electrical faults across Lennox Head, Ballina and Byron Bay — tripping safety switches, dead circuits, flickering lights and burning smells. We isolate the fault by testing circuit by circuit rather than replacing parts and hoping.
A safety switch that trips is doing its job. The question is what it is protecting you from — and that answer comes from methodical testing, not guesswork. Most faults we find are moisture, a failing appliance, or damage from an earlier repair.
What’s included
- Tripping safety switches and circuit breakers
- Dead circuits and power outages to part of the house
- Flickering, buzzing or dimming lights
- Burning smells, hot outlets and scorch marks
- Water damage and moisture ingress faults
- Storm and surge damage repairs
- Insurance reports and documentation
What we look for first
Nine times out of ten a nuisance trip is a failing appliance, water ingress into an external point or fitting, or a nail through a cable from an unrelated job. We split the circuit and narrow it down until the cause is proven.
Urgent faults
Burning smells, hot switch plates, scorch marks around a socket or sparking are not wait-until-Monday problems. Turn the circuit off at the board and call — we prioritise anything with a fire or shock risk.

Fault Finding & Repairs questions
Why does my safety switch keep tripping?
Most often a faulty appliance, moisture in an outdoor power point or light fitting, or damaged cable insulation. Turning appliances off one at a time and resetting can identify an appliance; anything beyond that needs testing.
What should I do if I smell burning near a power point?
Turn that circuit off at the switchboard immediately, unplug what you safely can, and call an electrician. A burning smell around electrical fittings indicates overheating and is a genuine fire risk.
Can you find a fault without knowing which circuit it is on?
Yes. We work through the board systematically with insulation resistance and continuity testing to isolate the affected circuit, then trace it to the specific point of failure.
