Electrician in Ocean Shores

Elevated estate housing from the 70s and 80s, now due for upgrades.

Earth Electrical NSW services Ocean Shores, NSW 2483. The estate was built largely through the 1970s and 80s, so most work here is switchboard upgrades, rewiring, and adding capacity for EV chargers and air conditioning to boards that have none. Call 0412 521 992.

Ocean Shores is a planned estate built largely through the 1970s and 80s on the hills north of Brunswick. That single fact shapes nearly all the electrical work we do there.

An estate that aged all at once

Because most of Ocean Shores went up inside a couple of decades, the housing is hitting the same problems at the same time. Original switchboards with ceramic fuses and no RCD protection, cable that has done forty years in a hot roof space, and nowhere near enough power points for how anyone lives now. If your neighbours are all upgrading their boards, that is not a coincidence.

Elevated and exposed

The estate sits high, with a lot of homes catching wind straight off the ocean. Aerial supply, roof-mounted equipment and outdoor fittings all take a beating up there, and storm damage tends to be worse than in the sheltered pockets down near the river.

Adding load to an old board

The most common request here is adding something the house was never designed for — air conditioning, an EV charger, a workshop in the garage. On a 1970s board with no spare ways and no RCD, the board comes first. That is not upselling, it is the order the work has to happen in.

Electrical services in Ocean Shores

Ocean Shores has an unusually consistent housing age, which produces an unusually consistent job list — switchboards and wiring installed forty-odd years ago, now well past the standards they were built to.

Ocean Shores questions

Why do so many Ocean Shores homes need switchboard upgrades?

The estate was built largely through the 1970s and 80s, so the housing reaches the same point at the same time. Original boards typically have ceramic fuses, no RCD protection and no spare capacity — adequate when installed, well short of what current standards require.

Can I add an EV charger or air conditioning to a 1970s Ocean Shores house?

Usually yes, but the switchboard almost always has to be upgraded first — boards of that age rarely have spare capacity or RCD protection. We assess the supply and board before quoting so the full cost is visible upfront rather than appearing halfway through.

Is storm damage worse in Ocean Shores?

It tends to be. The estate is elevated and exposed to wind straight off the ocean, so aerial supply and roof-mounted equipment take more punishment than in sheltered areas. Surge protection at the switchboard is a sensible precaution here.
