Smoke Alarms & Electrical Safety Inspections
Hardwired alarms and safety checks for homes and rentals.
Earth Electrical NSW installs hardwired interconnected smoke alarms and carries out electrical safety inspections across the Northern Rivers, including compliance checks for rental properties and pre-purchase inspections with a written report.
Smoke alarms are the cheapest life-safety device in a house and the most commonly neglected. If yours are older than ten years, or beep at three in the morning on a nine-volt battery, they are due.
What’s included
- Hardwired 240V smoke alarm installation
- Interconnected alarm systems
- Photoelectric alarm upgrades
- Rental property compliance checks
- Annual smoke alarm testing
- Pre-purchase electrical safety inspections
- Written safety reports
Hardwired and interconnected
Interconnected alarms all sound together, which matters when the fire starts at the far end of the house. Hardwired units with a lithium backup remove the flat-battery chirp entirely.
Rental property compliance
NSW landlords must ensure working smoke alarms are installed and checked annually. We inspect, replace expired units and provide the documentation for your records or your agent.

Smoke Alarms & Safety Inspections questions
How often should smoke alarms be replaced?
Every ten years regardless of whether they still respond to the test button. The sensor degrades over time. The manufacture date is printed on the back of the unit.
Do NSW rental properties need hardwired smoke alarms?
NSW law requires working smoke alarms in all residential rental properties, checked annually by the landlord. Hardwired interconnected alarms are mandatory in new builds and significant renovations.
What does an electrical safety inspection cover?
Switchboard condition and RCD protection, safety switch operation, visible wiring and fittings, earthing, smoke alarms, and insulation resistance testing — supplied as a written report with any defects prioritised.
